How do you get the Wow factor in your luxury reception re-design in London?

It's a shame that residential reception areas in London are often, shabby and neglected. As an interior designer, I visit many high-net-worth homes where the first impression is often very disappointing, due to the poor state of the reception area. Whether it's a residential block or a conversion, a well-designed reception can make a huge difference. This area is the first point of contact for guests, so making a good first impression with a welcoming and inviting atmosphere is important.

Reception before transformation.

Reception after transformation

So often in London, we see multi-million-pound apartments with drab and dirty entrances. The overseas market expects a much higher standard. Landlords and owners will find that higher rental yields are achieved with a much quicker turnaround when the reception areas are opulent and inviting, and it goes without saying, much easier to sell.  When a reception area is beautifully fitted you know that the owners/landlords are looking after their investments and the building is being managed professionally.

SVM has transformed several drab and lackluster reception areas into impressive, luxurious, and welcoming spaces that are pleasing to the eye and add value to the building. One of Susan Van Meters' recent projects was to redesign the entrance to a building housing 16 flats on the London Bridge Road. You will see from the 'before' photographs that the existing space desperately needed an uplift. SVM project managed the uplift supplying the contractors and product within a four-week fit-out schedule.

We were presented with a small and basic rectangular space. The area was transformed using large format titles and mirrors to create a feeling of opulence and luxury as you stepped through the main door. Placing the mirrors opposite each other added light and the feeling of space. New lighting and a fire door clad in aluminum sheet with applied decorative studs completed the design. Creating mitres to the edge of the built-out housing for the mailboxes provided a beautiful finish, difficult to achieve on a long 2.5m run. The key to a successful large-format tile installation is the installer; they must be qualified and experienced in handling the material.

The tiles used are 3m x 1.5m so cover a large surface area which helps to instantly transform the walls and floors. Purchased through Porcelain Tiles https://www.porcelain-tiles.co.uk/collection a trusted supplier of sustainable surfaces, offering a large range of stone and marble alternatives. SVM use marble alternatives whenever possible due to the sustainability footprint offered by using porcelain versus real stone.

The transformation of this space speaks for itself. The chosen tile pattern and colour is dramatic and fit for any luxury reception design in London. It's a 100% improvement and a hit with the owners!

A well-designed residential reception does the following:

  • Creates a welcoming and luxurious atmosphere

  • Adds value to your apartment and building

  • Creates higher rental yields
